Thank you for your interest in the Voluntary Ecological Year (FÖJ) in Schleswig-Holstein.

We welcome applications from young people from Germany and abroad who are interested in environmental and sustainability-related work.

Who Can Apply?

  • Applicants should normally be at least 18 years old when starting their FÖJ.
  • Applicants must be under 26 years of age on 1 August, the official start date of the programme.
  • Any school-leaving qualification is accepted.
  • International applicants are warmly welcome.
  • Applications should be submitted in German.
  • Applicants from abroad must provide proof of German language proficiency at B1 level or higher. B2 level is recommended.

Application Deadlines

Regular Application Process

14 February

This is the official deadline for the regular FÖJ application process. We strongly recommend submitting your application as early as possible, ideally in December or January.

Subsequent Placement Procedure (Nachrückverfahren)

After the regular application process, any remaining places may be filled through a subsequent placement procedure.

Applicants who require a visa to enter Germany may be considered for these remaining places. To allow sufficient time for visa processing, their complete application must be received by 30 April at the latest.

Applications from candidates requiring a visa cannot be considered after this date.

Important

  • 14 February is the regular application deadline for all applicants.
  • 30 April is the final deadline for applicants requiring a visa who wish to be considered for any remaining places after the regular application process.
  • Submitting an application by 30 April does not guarantee that places will still be available.

How to Apply

  1. Complete the official FÖJ Schleswig-Holstein application form.
  2. Submit all required documents.
  3. Include proof of your German language proficiency.
  4. Submit your application through the official application process.

Important Notice

Applications can only be considered if they are submitted using the official FÖJ Schleswig-Holstein application form.
Applications sent directly to placement sites do not replace the official application process and are not sufficient on their own.
